IMPORTANT: We need your views!

For over 15 years The Volunteer Centre has been proud to provide The Elderfriends Befriending Scheme to the communities of Chesterfield & NE Derbyshire.  We know how much it is valued by those who have benefitted from the project both in terms of volunteering and those in receipt of the service.  Without people like you who give your much valued to time to our project, we wouldn’t have been able to make the scheme the success it is today in supporting and giving companionship to those who lead lonely and socially isolated lives.

We wish the project to continue for many years to come, building on community friendships but as you may be aware, there are significant cuts to statutory services in the voluntary sector and we have been advised that funding for the Elderfriends befriending service will cease with effect from the end of September 2016.

Like other voluntary sector services that have received this news, The Volunteer Centre has entered into a 12 week period of consultation with the Local Authority and we will be doing our best to lobby for the service to continue. This is where you can help by giving your views of what the consequences will be to you personally based on the proposals.  You can find out more about the proposals by going to:

It is therefore extremely important that everyone affected by the proposed cuts to funding makes their voices heard whilst there is still time to affect the decision by completing and returning the enclosed Consultation Questionnaire in the envelope provided or using the link below to complete via the ‘online questionnaire’ (click on the green button-Open)

We will keep you informed about any changes to our befriending service but in the meantime we will continue to deliver the Elderfriends service and all other associated services i.e. Safe & Sound projects – (one to one adhoc support and the community cafes) and in supporting you our volunteers and the people you care for.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and commitment and assure you that we will do our utmost to retain the service.

Should you have any queries in respect of the above, please do not hesitate to contact us.
